Shelter Dogs Rock. Our new fur baby.

If you are interested in adopting a shelter animal please consider doing it the weekend of May 30 – 31,  2015. I know the shelter we adopted Cash is participating in this great event. If you’re in the Bay Area, CA please consider visiting the Oakland Animal Shelter. Otherwise visit the website to search shelters in your area.

Please visit http://www.maddiesfund.org/maddies-pet-adoption-days-2015.htm to find a local shelters in your area supported by this free adoption weekend.

“Maddie’s® Pet Adoption Days May30 – 31 2015 has supported the adoptions of more than 30,000 homeless dogs and cats since the program’s inception in 2010. For each pet adopted, Maddies Fund®gives participating shelters from $200 to $2,500. This funding enables the shelters and rescue groups to save and treat more animals throughout the year.”

Shelter dogs rock.

I would like to introduce you to my new fur baby. His name is Cash and he comes to us from the Oakland Animal Services Shelter in Oakland CA. I had the pleasure of visiting the shelter a few times to ensure we found the right dog for our family. I feel in love with so many pooches but was only able to take one home. Oakland Animal Services is a no kill shelter so there main goal is to pair the right family with their perfect dog.  Cash is a beautiful pit terrier mix that is only about 11 months old. He was found as a stray , adopted then returned for being too much of a  puppy. I know sad face. He is a sweet loving dog that just wants a great family to help him along his puppy years and form a wonderful bond for the rest of his life. The shelter I visited has a wonderful visiting policy with the dogs where you, your family and any animals in your home can spend one on one time with the dog. How wonderful is that. Because I have a small child I needed to know the dog understood the type of energy my tornado can have.

If you are looking to adopt please visit your local shelter, or rescue agency to give a pooch or kitty a chance to show you just how much love they have to give. The volunteers are such a great source of information and are super helpful and kind. Remember some dogs have a hard time showing when there in the kennels. If the shelter provides visiting please give that dog a chance to wow you outside of the cage they live in.  I think I would be a hot mess if I was in a cage all day as well.

AND THEY CALL IT PUPPY LOVE……

The wonders of the Circus.

20140729-142110.jpg
We had the pleasure of attending for the first time Circus Vargas: Magikaria Extreme. Hands down it was such a great show. Just seeing my sons face as the magician did his tricks, or the acrobatic artists did there aerial show was priceless. I was even entranced with the trick and performances myself. My favorite act was the aerial rope dancers. Alex the trickster clown was also hilarious. My son laughed out loud so many times through out the entire show. We are still talking about the magician and his extremely fast changing assistant and the balancing tricks of the announcer. My son had the pleasure of volunteering his shoe for one of his balancing tricks.

The meaning of heading to the circus and sitting under the big top was literally what we did. The tents are erected and you walk in and it’s a right there all in front of you, the center stage where all the magic happens. All the seats are good seats. The Preshow event was also great for the kids. This is what a circus should look like. What I imagined when I was a child and was so pleased I could give that experience to my son. This was not a huge arena where there are 2 or 3 acts going on at the same time that you can barely focus on one thing, or your seats are so far away from the action that you don’t see everything. We did that last year and the excitement my son showed after watching this show was completely different. He could not stop talking about all his favorite acts to the point that he even knew what they were wearing. The fact that he will always remember this event to the smallest details. To me that’s what a show should be like for a child.

After the show we were able to obtain signatures from all the performers and get pictures taken as well. We had a wonderful first time experience and we will defiantly come back the next time they are in town.

Have you attended a circus show lately?

My Pinterest tries!!

If you know what Pinterest is then you know the amount of hours one can waste going over boards and boards of interesting things one can cook, sew, craft, DIY and mimic. Who has not found something on there and said “OMG I can totally do this”, “ Look how easy” and “OHH wow I never knew you could do that”

Once I started to meal prep the first thing I did was look to Pinterest for easy ideas to try at home. That is when I found this one..
A yummy Bean Salad:

I made a huge batch of this and used it threw out the week with my lunches. I would mix in some quinoa or chicken to give it a different taste. Even added avocado.

Another Pinterest try we did this week is this AMAZING Fried Honey Banana Recipe.

Literally my sister said she wants to purchase a ton of bananas to make this recipe every day. It’s a great healthy alternative to candy. Try at your own risk this does seem to be addictive.

So of course with me being so obsessed with Pinterest I started to collect toilet paper rolls. I thought for sure I would find a great craft idea to try with my monkey. With Easter right around the corner I found this great post we could try. Toilet paper Easter Bunnies.

Where has my motivation gone?- Part 3

Where has my motivation gone Part 3

Where does one find motivation? In quotes, in places, in book, in event? Anything and everything can be used as motivation. If it makes you make the change, if it brings you the drive you need to do something  then its MOTIVATION. Sometimes motivation comes from people who are around you.  Here are a list of people who motivate me.

Main motivation is:

My son:

Summer 2012

My health is a major factor and I want to be around for my son. Having to deal with both my parents having a family history of diabetes, heart attacks, strokes, and cancer I want to do everything possible to ensure I value my health so my son has me for a long long time. Being a single mom adds even more stress to be fit and healthy for him. If he wants to run I’m the one running with him, I’m the one that wants to run behind that bike when he learns to ride one. I want to be the one running in the park with him flying his first kite.  All these things require stamina and being able to take a few steps without needing a break is essential.

My friend Molly:  http://itsjustmollysworld.blogspot.com/

She recently decided that she needed to be more active in order to motivate her own daughter to also be active. And what a better  way than to lead by example. She has been blogging about her journey and has allowed all of us to be a part of that journey with her. Remember there is no actual model to follow to make the change but you do what works for you. And that is exactly what she has done. She saw an online deal for a boot camp, grabbed hold and dived in. She has taken the information given to her and in one week dropped 6.5 lbs.  Please go to her blog and read her very witty and candid thoughts about her journey.

My sister and mother:

These two are my biggest cheerleaders. I appreciate them even when they think I don’t.  My sister is always looking for ways to help me eat better and she pushes me to go out and walk even when all I want to do is sit my big butt on the couch.

Embracing all this motivation is my next step in helping me reach my goals.  I know I can do this. There is not one stopping me but ME..

Who in your life motivates you to be the best you?
